Men's Tennis Prepares For Doubleheader This Week

This Week in Sooner Tennis
The Oklahoma men’s tennis team (4-0) will host Cowley County Community College and East Central on Sun., Feb. 29, at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. OU will take on Cowley County at 9 a.m. followed by East Central at 2 p.m.  Admission is free.

Series Record/Last Time
The Sooners have defeated the Cowley County Tigers for seven straight seasons since 1997, including a 7-0 win a year ago. 
Oklahoma has not played East Central since the 1994 and 1995 seasons when they conquered the Tigers, 9-0, in each match. 
UNLV Invitational Recap
OU swept Texas-Arlington, 4-0, in the championship match of the UNLV Invitational on Sun., Feb. 15, at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas. The Sooners brought home the tournament title for the first time since 1990. 
OU crushed Weber State, 7-0, in the first round, and then defeated tournament host UNLV in the semifinals.
Undefeated Sooners
Five Sooners are undefeated in singles play after six matches. Junior Ondrej Fukala (Prerov, Czech Republic), sophomores Lee Gregg (Altus, Okla.) and Alexei Ivanov (Izhevsk, Russia) and freshman Marek Velicka (Prerov, Czech Republic) are all 6-0 on the season, while junior Silviu Tanasoiu (Sibiu, Romania) is 5-0. In doubles play, Fukala and Tanasoiu have a perfect record of 6-0 at the No. 3 spot.
OU Will Host 2004 Big 12 Championships
Oklahoma will host the 2004 Men’s and Women’s Big 12 Tennis Championships this spring at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. Tournament action begins Fri., April 30, and runs through Sun., May 2.  Admission is $15 for the four-day tournament. An adult single session is $5 and a youth single session is $2.
