NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team will tee off in its second tournament of the fall season Sept. 19-21 (Monday-Wednesday) in the Golfweek Conference Challenge, hosted by the University of Denver.
The 18-team tournament will be played at the par-72, 6,405-yard Red Sky Fazio course in Edwards, Colo., and will consist of 18 holes each day.
“This golf course is phenomenal,” said OU head coach Veronique Drouin. “We are definitely excited to be here and we are ready to play tomorrow. The girls have been practicing hard all week. We are very fortunate to be playing in this event and look forward to a good week.”
The 27th-ranked Sooners will be joined in the field by eight other top-50 teams: No. 20 Pepperdine, No. 25 Notre Dame, No. 33 TCU, No. 34 Oregon, No. 39 Minnesota, No. 42 Mississippi, No. 43 Denver and No. 46 Tulsa. Also competing will be UC Davis, Chattanooga, Kennesaw State, Texas-San Antonio, Chattanooga, Coastal Carolina, New Mexico State, Pennsylvania and Western Michigan.
Competing in the No. 1 position for the Sooners will be sophomore Chirapat “Ja” Jao-Javanil. Jao-Javanil is coming off a top-20 showing in which she tied for 13th place at last week’s Texas A&M “Mo”Morial Classic.
Sophomore Anne-Catherine Tanguay and junior Taylor Schmidt play in the No. 2 and 3 positions, respectively. Each tied for 16th place in the “Mo”Morial Classic.
Junior college transfer Jacki Marshall will compete in the No. 4 position for the Sooners. Marshall made her Sooner debut last week and tied for 18th place.
Rounding out the lineup is sophomore Jade Staggs, who is competing in the No. 5 position for the Sooners.
