COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Oklahoma Sooners (7-8, 0-1 Big 12) dropped its first Big 12 match of the season, 4-3, Friday night to No. 21 Texas A&M (10-6, 1-1 Big 12).

The match was moved to an indoor tennis facility in nearby Bryan, Texas, after rain forced a delay in the match.

The Sooners used strong doubles play to earn the point to begin the night as OU won two of three from the Aggies.

"We showed a lot of toughness tonight against a top-25 program and came up just short after playing great tennis all night," head coach Paul Lockwood said.

Federico Chavarria and Andrei Daescu defeated Austin Krajicek and Wil Spencer at No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-6.  Texas A&M won by default, 4-3, at the No. 2 line after freshmen Ionut Beleleu was injured and could not continue.

Sergey Avdeyev and Alex Joitoiu defeated Matt Bain and Mike Beatty at No. 3 doubles, 8-5.

No. 39 Andrei Daescu continued his solid play and upset No. 23 Conor Pollock at No. 1 singles by a score of, 6-4, 6-4.

The Sooners dropped the No. 2 and 3 singles matches as well as the No. 5 line.

Federico Chavarria was the only other Sooner to record a victory as he defeated Chris Chirico, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, at No. 4 singles.

A&M took the No. 6 singles match due to the injury sustained by Beleleu in his doubles match.

"We need to regain our focus and prepare for another tough match against an even more talented Longhorn team on Sunday," Lockwood added.  "We know that we can match up against top quality opponents and we need to prove it on the court Sunday."

Oklahoma is ranked No. 61 in the March 25 release of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team rankings.

Sophomore Andrei Daescu is ranked No. 39 in the ITA singles rankings.

Next up, the Sooners continue play in the state of Texas as they face No. 5 Texas in Austin, Sunday, March 30.  The match is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
