Sooners Host Oklahoma Invitational

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma track and field teams host the final indoor home meet of the season on Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Mosier Indoor Facility. The Oklahoma Invitational is set to begin with throws events at 10 a.m. CT, while track events begin at 12:30 p.m. CT. Admission to the meet is free and live results are available at

Joining the Sooners at the meet are Central Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Tulsa, Oral Roberts, Southern Nazarene, New Mexico JC, North Texas, Northwood, Prairie View, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin and UT-Arlington.

The men’s team enters the weekend ranked No. 23 in the latest United State Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings. The Sooners are third in the Midwest Region, while OU’s women have a No. 6 regional ranking.

A total of 19 women and 17 men are entered to compete for the Sooners, including several ranked in the top 30 nationally in their respective events. Malcolm Anderson is seventh in the men’s 60-meter hurdles, while Karen Shump is 12th in the women’s shot put and Bailey Wagner is 20th. Shawna Anderson has the nation’s 23rd best time in the women’s 60-meter dash.

UT-Arlington’s Jeff Rodriguez enters the meet ranked No. 17 in the men’s pole vault, while Prairie View’s Preston Woodard is 19th in the men’s triple jump.

Oklahoma’s Sherine Wells (60-meter dash) , Shump (shot put) and Angel Togafau (weight throw), along with Stephen F. Austin’s Mary Dickerson (200- and 400-meter dashes), Jessica Cousins (600-yard run), Central Oklahoma’s Lacey Rhodes (high jump) and Alex Acker (pole vault) are all returning champions on the women’s side. Among the men’s champions returning in 2012 are Stephen F. Austin’s Colton Ross (pole vault) and Oklahoma’s Alex Madkins (long jump).
