NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's golf team shot a final-round 316 (+28) and finished in 11th place Tuesday at the 16-team Lady Puerto Rico Classic.  The Sooners totaled a 54-hole score of 923 (+59) at the Champions Course of the Trump International Golf Club in Rio Grande, P.R.

Alabama won the tournament with an 872 (+8) team total and was followed by host Purdue in second (883) and Oklahoma State in third (886).  OU finished one stroke behind Wisconsin (ranked No. 50 by Golfweek) and 12 shots ahead of 49th-ranked Iowa State.

"The conditions were tough today," said OU head coach Veronique Drouin.  "Gusty winds and difficult hole locations made the course play a little harder.  We need to look at the positives and move forward because we have a ton of tournaments this spring."

One of the positives was the play of junior Ellen Mueller.  Despite recording an unusually high 79 (+7) in Tuesday's final round, Mueller finished in 15th place with a solid three-round 221 (+5).  It marked Mueller's 12th career top-20 finish and fifth in five tournaments in 2009-10.

Senior Chelsey Collins, who competed in her first tournament of the season, also carded a 79 (+7) in the final round and finished in a tie for 46th place with a 234 (+18).

Freshman Taylor Schmidt recorded a final-round 82 (+10) and finished the tournament with a 235 (+19) to tie for 53rd place, as did senior Andrea Sellmeyer.  Sellmeyer posted OU's low score of the day with her 4-over-par 76.

Freshman Aly Seng carded an 82 (+10) Tuesday for a three-round 239 (+23) and a share of 64th place.

"Andrea played well today, and it should give her some confidence for the upcoming tournaments," said Drouin.

The Sooners compete next at the UCF Challenge, hosted by the University of Central Florida, on March 1-2, in Orlando, Fla.
