OU To Compete In Carpet Capital Collegiate

The University of Oklahoma men's golf team will compete in its third tournament of the fall season this weekend (Sept. 27-29) at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face, Ga. OU finished tied for second at the Sooner Invitational in Frisco, Texas, on Sept. 16 and 17.

Sooner Golfers in the Rankings
OU is currently 21st in the GolfWorld collegiate rankings. Individually, senior John Kidwell (Dallas, Texas) was listed as one of the players to watch in the GolfWorld college preview. Kidwell earned medalist honors at last week's Sooner Invitational with a three- round total of 205 (-11). The GolfWeek and Golfstat rankings will be released in the coming weeks.

Brodie Flanders (Fr., Vancouver, B.C.) - Making his third career start as a Sooner ... Finished tied for 31st at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate... Shot a career-low 69 at the Sooner Invitational...Was a member of the Canadian National Team in 2001 and 2002 ... Named the East Coast Junior champion as well the a runner-up in the New Brunswick Junior Provincial Championships.

Martin Flores (Jr., Mansfield, Texas) - Making his 28th consecutive start for OU ... Has finished in the top-20 in both tournaments this fall... Fired a career-low 66 at the Sooner Invitational... Started the 2001 season with a third-place finish at The Ridges Intercollegiate ... Finished the Big 12 Championship tied for 26th with a score of 222.

John Kidwell (Sr., Dallas, Texas) - Making his 31st start as a Sooner ... Shot a course-record 65 at the Sooner Invitational en route to winning the individual championship... Led OU in a team-best six tournaments while averaging a team-low 71.48 during the spring season and 72.00 overall ... Tied for second in back-to-back tournaments at the Big 12 Championships and The Maxwell last year ... Garnered third-team All-America honors ... A first-team All-Big 12 selection last year.

Doug Manor (Sr., Garland, Texas) - Making his seventh career start for Oklahoma ... Finished tied for 23rd at the Sooner Invitational... Started in four tournaments during the 2001 spring season ... Fired a career-low round of 69 in the second round of the NCAA regional ... Shot a career-best 219 a week earlier at The Maxwell to tie for a career-best 22nd.

Blake Martin (Jr., Stigler, Okla.) - Starting his fifth tournament for OU ... Shot a career-low 69 at the Sooner Invitational... Posted career bests in his first start as a Sooner at the 2002 Taylor Made Waikoloa Intercollegiate... Fired a then-career-low 70 in the first round and finished the tournament with a four-over 220 for a career-best finish (T26th) as OU surged to a second-place finish.
