NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team tees off in its final fall tournament on Oct. 26-27 (Monday and Tuesday) at the Alamo Invitational, hosted by the University of Texas at San Antonio. The 54-hole tournament will be played at the par-72, 6,323-yard Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas.
The Sooners will compete against 11 other teams, four of which are ranked in Golfweek’s top 50. The field includes No. 7 Tennessee, No. 15 Texas A&M, No. 42 Wisconsin, No. 50 Notre Dame, Baylor, Middle Tennessee State, Mississippi, Nebraska, SMU, Texas State and UTSA.
“This tournament is the last of the fall season, and we’ve been working really hard the last couple of weeks,” OU head coach Veronique Drouin said. “A good finish at this tournament would show the girls that we are a good team and give us some momentum heading into the off-season.”
Per usual, Ellen Mueller (Evansville, Ind.) will lead the Sooner lineup in San Antonio. In her three tournaments so far during her junior season, Mueller has recorded a top-five, a top-10 and a top-20 finish.
In the No. 2 spot, freshman Taylor Schmidt (Ontario, Canada) will compete in her third tournament for the Sooners. In OU’s last event, Schmidt recorded an impressive three-round 224 (+8) at the Windy City Collegiate to claim 23rd place.
Sophomore Kelly Short (Muncie, Ind.) will compete in a second consecutive tournament after tying for 47th at the Windy City Collegiate. Fellow sophomore Brooke Collins (Louisville, Colo.), who opened the season by tying for eighth at the Texas A&M “Mo” Morial Invitational, is in the No. 4 spot while senior Andrea Sellmeyer (McAlester, Okla.) will compete in the No. 5 slot.
Thirty-six holes will be played Monday and the final 18 Tuesday. Golfstat.com will stream live scoring of the Alamo Invitational.
