NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma freshman golfer Brodie Flanders has been named the top junior golfer in Canada for the 2002 season. Flanders finished first in the BMO Financial Group Future Links Junior Order of Merit with 3,160 points, 160 points more than the second-place finisher.
The Petitcodiac, New Brunswick, native had a successful 2002 season with five top-10 junior Canadian finishes. He finished runner-up at the Bank of Montreal Future Links Atlantic Championship, the N.B. Junior Championship, the Mackenzie East Coast Junior and the N.B. Amateur Championship, and recorded a top-10 placing at the Canadian Junior Championship.
The BMO Financial Group Future Links Order of Merit is a ranking system to identify, recognize and promote Canada's best junior golfers. Points are awarded to the top finishers in prominent junior provincial championships, Future Links Junior Series Championships and the Canadian Junior Championship.
"Winning this award is a great honor for a Canadian junior golfer," head coach Jim Ragan said. "That's one reason why we have such high regard for Brodie and expect great things from him."
