Oklahoma will host Missouri Valley in the first dual meet of the season in the Howard McCasland Field House on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Oklahoma will enter the match with a win at the Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Classic in tow. Oklahoma is currently ranked fourth by Amateur Wrestling News, while Missouri Valley ended last season ranked 11th in the NAIA.
Lambrecht Tabbed Preseason Favorite
Senior Josh Lambrecht will begin the season in the top spot of every major poll in the 184 pound weight class. Lambrecht concluded last season with the runner-up title at the NCAA Championships after claiming his second Big 12 Conference title. The two-time All-American garnered the Oklahoma Gold and Oklahoma Open titles en route to a 34-5 record for the season. Lambrecht recently claimed his second Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Classic title at 184 pounds.
Oklahoma claimed the Brockport/Oklahoma Gold championships after beating sixth ranked Ohio State by 29 points. The Sooners placed in all ten weight classes, which included five individual titles. Winning championships were Witt Durden (133 pounds), Nate Parker (141 pounds), E.K. Waldhaus (174 pounds), Josh Lambrecht (184 pounds) and Tom Grossman (197 pounds). Senior Bo Maynes garnered runner up honors at 125 pounds, while Oklahoma's 165 pounds wrestler Wes Roberts claimed third place.
