SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The University of Oklahoma women's soccer team ended its 2000 season with a 1-0 loss to No. 9 Texas A&M in the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament at Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio, Texas. OU finished the year with a 10-9-1 record and its first winning season in school history. The Aggies improved to 17-5 on the year and moved into the tournament finals.

Kristen Strutz score the game's lone goal with only 48 seconds left in the first half. She headed the ball into the net off a corner kick from Heather Wiebe.

Oklahoma came close to tying the game later in the first half when Aggies' goalkeeper Esther Thompson made a save off a shot in the box by sophomore forward Heather Martinelli.

Thompson (14-1) stopped four Oklahoma shots en route to the shutout victory. OU sophomore goalkeeper Jana Cunningham (8-8-1) took the loss despite seven saves.

"I thought our team gave a fantastic effort," said Oklahoma Head Coach Randy Evans, who was named Big 12 Coach of the Year. "We just weren't able to hold on in the first half. If this is the low point of our season, then there's something to really look forward to next year."
