KLEIN, Texas The University of Oklahoma softball team split its two Saturday contests a 6-3 loss to Louisiana-Lafayette and a 4-3 win over Houston during the second day of the Spring Klein College Classic.
Junior center fielder Amber Spaulding proved clutch in a dramatic, come-from-behind win against Houston in what had otherwise been a frustrating weekend for the Sooners.
Down 3-1 with two outs, Spaulding knocked a two-run blast out of the park to tie the game and swing the momentum in the Sooners’ favor.
Two at-bats later, Tayl’r Hollis plated pinch runner Jade Prather with a single up the middle to add the go-ahead run.
OU dropped its first game 6-3 to UL-Lafayette after it jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the fourth but failed to capitalize with a bases loaded, one out situation.
UL-Lafayette took control in the top of the fifth, scoring three runs in three batters after Deserea Griffin slugged a 2-run shot straight over center field. Griffin added another three runs, putting the game away for good, with a three-run homer in the sixth.
Savannah Long added a solo home run in the seventh for OU’s final score.
