NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma will host the 14th annual Big 12 Women's Golf Championship April 23-25 (Friday through Saturday) at the 6,327 yard, par-72 Jimmie Austin OU Golf in Norman. The league's 12 teams are scheduled to play 18 holes beginning at 8 a.m. CT each day of the tournament (54 holes total).
Leading the OU lineup will be Ellen Mueller (Evansville, Ind.), a junior who has posted the Sooners' top finish in 10 of their 11 events on the year. Mueller has notched 10 top-20 finishes this season, including five top-five showings. Ranked No. 62 nationally by Golfweek, Mueller heads into her third Big 12 Championship ranked second on OU's all-time stroke average list (76.0). Earlier this week, she was named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team for the second consecutive year.
Freshman Taylor Schmidt (Kincardine, Ontario) will compete in the No. 2 slot for the Sooners. Fresh off her first career top-10 finish at last week's Baylor Spring Invitational, Schmidt has competed in 10 of OU's 11 regular season tournaments. She posted a 14th-place finish in March at the Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate.
Playing in the third spot for the Sooners will be senior Andrea Sellmeyer (McAlester, Okla.), who has also competed in all but one event this year. Hot of late, Sellmeyer has inked three top-20 performances, including a career-best 10th-place showing at the Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate. Coming off a 15th-place finish at the Baylor Spring Invitational, Sellmeyer was one of three first-team academic all-league honorees this week with a 4.0 grade point average.
Senior Chelsey Collins (Louisville, Colo.) will play for OU in the No. 4 spot. Collins has participated in six events this year and had her best finish at the Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate (tied for 23rd place).
Sophomore Brooke Collins (Louisville, Colo.) rounds out the OU lineup and will play in the No. 5 position. The younger sister of Chelsey Collins, Brooke tied for a career-best eighth place last fall at the Texas A&M "Mo" Morial and finished tied for 11th at the Claud Jacobs last month.
"The girls have been working really hard on their games and we hope that it will pay off," OU head coach Veronique Drouin said. "It's great to be hosting the Big 12 Championship and we are excited to get the tournament started. I invite all the Sooner fans out there to come cheer us on."
The No. 10 seed, OU is paired with No. 11 seed Kansas and No. 12 seed Kansas State for Friday's first round. The trio will tee off on hole No. 1 beginning at 8 a.m. No. 4 seed Baylor, No.5 seed Texas Tech and No. 6 seed Iowa State will start on hole No. 10 at 8 a.m. Beginning at 8:50 a.m., No. 7 seed Nebraska, No. 8 seed Missouri and No. 9 seed Colorado will tee off on hole No. 1, while No. 1 seed Texas A&M, No. 2 seed Oklahoma State and No. 3 seed Texas will start on No. 10.
The teams will play a practice round on Thursday, with OU scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. CT. Saturday's and Sunday's pairings will be announced following the completion of Friday's and Saturday's rounds, respectively.
