NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team recorded a seventh-place finish at the 12-team Texas A&M “Mo”Morial Invitational  after shooting a third-round  306 (+18) at the 6,260-yard, par-72 Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas, on Tuesday.

The Sooners, who finished just six strokes out of fourth place, recorded a three-round 923 (+59). Texas (+21) finished in first place and Auburn (+23) took second.

OU’s Chirapat “Ja” Jao-Javanil, Anne-Catherine Tanguay, Taylor Schmidt and Jacki Marshall all finished in the top 20 in a field of 68 competitors.

“Taylor and A.C. both played solid for us this week,” said OU head coach Veronique Drouin. “We have a few days to work on things before we head to Colorado this weekend for the Golfweek Invitational. We’re going to face another good field next week so I am excited to get back to Norman and continue practicing.”

Jao-Janavil finished tied for 13th place after shooting a 78 (+6) in the final round.  The sophomore finished with a total score of 227 (+11), marking the 10th time in 12 career tournaments she has finished in the top 20.

Fellow sophomore Tanguay countered seven bogeys and a double-bogey with six birdies Tuesday en route to a 3-over 75.  She finished in a tie for 16th place with a three-round 228 (+12), alongside junior Schmidt, who competed as an individual. Schmidt’s 1-over 71 in the final round was OU’s best score of the day. She recorded three birdies Tuesday and four Monday after not registering any in Sunday’s opening round.

Junior college transfer Jacki Marshall fired a third-round 76 (+4) to finish in a tie for 18thplace in her Sooner debut. After an 8-over-par opening round, Marshall completed the final two rounds at 5 over par and finished with a three-round 229 (+13).

Sophomore transfer Jade Staggs shot a third-round 77 (+5), 10 strokes better than her second round, and finished tied for 55th place with a 243 (+27). Senior Brooke Collins registered a final-round 83 (+11) and finished tied for 64th with a 248 (+32).

The Sooners next compete in the Golfweek Invitational Sept. 19-21 at the Red Sky Golf Course in Aspen, Colo.
