NORMAN, Okla. University of Oklahoma women’s golf head coach Carol Ludvigson announced the team’s 2006 fall schedule Thursday, a slate that features five tournaments.
OU will tee off the season in Madison, Wis., at the Badger Invitational (Sept. 10-11 at University Ridge Golf Course). The Sooners will also compete in the Jeannine McHaney Invitational in Lubbock, Texas (Sept. 18-19 at The Rawls Course), the Women’s Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich., (Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at The University of Michigan Golf Course) and in the Price’s Give Em Five Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M. (Oct.16-18 at New Mexico State University Golf Course). OU will wrap up the fall schedule with a trip to the Kent Youel Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii (Oct. 24-25 at Kapolei Golf Course).
“We are excited to get started,” Ludvigson said. “We will be able to see a lot of teams in our region. Head-to-head competition will be good for us. Our team is ready to get going.”
The Sooners return seven letterwinners, including sophomore Kendall Dye who recorded a top-20 finish at the Big 12 Tournament last spring.
OU will look to utilize many players this season with the addition of three freshmen to the roster.
Collins, a four-year first-team all-conference selection, was named to the Denver Post All-State First Team and Rocky Mountain News All-Colorado First Team in 2005 and 2006. Sellmeyer recorded 30 top-10 finishes in high school tournaments, including 24 top four-finishes and eight victories. She was also selected to the All-State golf and volleyball teams in 2006. Trus was selected to the Mexican National Women’s Golf Team, which consists of Mexico’s 12 best amateur female golfers that compete in international tournaments.
“We are still in the midst of qualifying but we have a lot of depth,” Ludvigson said. “The five starters might not be the same every tournament.”
OU’s spring schedule will be announced later this fall.
