Final Stats

Head coach Kelvin Sampson
On the win:
"The thing I liked about tonight was our point guard play. Quannas and Ebi and Hollis are going to have to carry us until we get our freshmen going."

"We have some new guys we're working in. We're younger than you think. We have to get Johnnie Gilbert healthy. He had zero rebounds, and I think that's indicative of the injury he has."

"Jabahri and Kevin are a good combination. Kevin Bookout in the first half was outstanding. Kevin had eight shot attempts tonight. We have to get Kevin in double figure shot attempts."

"We have a tremendous group of young players. We're playing six players who are freshmen or sophomores. I think that bodes well for our future."

On Saturday's matchup With Princeton:
"It will be an interesting game. It's going to be who can dictate the tempo of the game. Princeton is going to win the game playing half-court and a slower tempo, and we're going to win the game going up and down. That's the difference. You play against a system, rather than individual players. Their system is so good. It's tough to come back and play them 15 hours later."

On UC Irvine:
"I'll be surprised if they don't win their conference. They are well-coached."

Freshman Kevin Bookout
On the team's mindset after the Alabama loss:
"Coach pushed our confidence level really hard this week in practice. He got us way up high after that loss. We hated to lose that game but we just needed to come back and get a win, which made us feel better."

On leading the team in the first half in points and rebounds: "I played with a lot of energy in the first half. I got a couple of tips and made some things happen on the offensive end."
On the second half: "I was just waiting for us to pull away. We had numerous opportunities and we finally hit a couple shots and got a couple of rebounds that helped us do that."
Senior Hollis Price
On the team's mindset after the Alabama loss:
"We had to come in and put that game behind us. Alabama was a tough loss but it seems that every time we lose, we get better. Tonight we did a lot of good things so we just need to continue to do what we do in practice and carry that over to the game."

On when UC Irvine pulled within seven in the second half:
"Basketball is a game of runs and we knew that we just had to pick up the intensity and that's what we did. We got our starters back in the game and we opened it up."

UC Irvine Quotes

Head Coach Pat Douglass
On the cutting the score to eight- "We cut the game to eight and then they made some defensive stops. When they had to turn the intensity level up, they did. We were going for the big line-up and they hurt us with the transition. We had to decide whether to go big or quick and we chose big. We felt like we could break down the pressure and get the ball down low to the post, but their pressure was too much for us tonight."

On the game:
"I was a little concerned coming in about our offensive rebounding. We did all right on the boards, but we had 13 turnovers at the half and 23 overall. We couldn't maintain our level of play throughout the contest. At times we had some good moments and we'll build upon that."

On OU's speed:
"They're definitely quick. We couldn't go small and match their quickness and still do a good job on the boards. They forced 23 turnovers and turned the ball over only nine times. That's 14 more possessions and you can't do that on the road."
