NORMAN, Okla.-- The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team will return to links for the first time this spring at the 2007 Lady Puerto Rico Classic, Friday, Feb. 23- Sunday, Feb. 25. Purdue will host the 54-hole tournament on the par-72, 6,000-yard Coco Beach Golf Course.

The Sooners will welcome two new faces to this week’s lineup. Freshman Chelsey Collins and junior Heather Wright will be competing for the first time this season. Also starting for Oklahoma will be Megan Goodwin, Kelly Jacques and Jaclyn Stelzer. Kendall Dye will be competing unattached from team scoring.

“We are very excited about getting started and having Heather in the lineup,” OU head coach Carol Ludvigson said. “This will help tremendously on low scoring and consistency.”

Competing in this weekend’s tournament are three teams in the nation’s top 10, including No. 1 Georgia. The 16-team field also consists of Alabama, Auburn, Central Florida, Indiana, Iowa State, Kent State, Minnesota, N.C. State, Oklahoma State, Purdue, South Carolina, TCU, Texas Tech and Wisconsin.

The Sooners return to Puerto Rico after turning in a top-20 individual finish by Kelly Jacques (921) at the tournament last spring.  OU has placed in the top 10 in two of the last three visits to the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.

“This will be a very competitive field but the team seems ready and full of fire,” Ludvigson said. “We hope to have a top-five finish and a couple top-10 finishes by individuals."
