IRVING, Texas -- The University of Oklahoma was selected third in the Big 12 Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Preseason Poll released Thursday.
Baylor was chosen as the preseason favorite to win the 2010-11 Big 12 women’s basketball regular season title for the second consecutive year.
The Lady Bears received all of the possible 11 first-place votes (coaches cannot vote for their own team). Texas A&M, winner of the 2010 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship, was picked second and nabbed the other first-place vote.
Texas was chosen fourth followed by Iowa State in fifth and Kansas sixth. Nebraska, last year’s regular season champion, was selected seventh, followed by Oklahoma State in eighth; Kansas State listed ninth, Texas Tech in 10th, Missouri 11th and Colorado 12th.

On the heels of back-to-back Final Four appearances, Oklahoma remains a strong contender in the conference. The Sooners return State Farm Coaches’ All-American Danielle Robinson and will soon render the services of 2009 Big 12 Freshman of the Year Whitney Hand. OU introduces six newcomers, including high school All-Americans Aaryn Ellenberg and Nicole Griffin.
Head coaches and select student-athletes will convene in Kansas City on Oct. 20 for the annual Big 12 Women’s Basketball Media Day. Kansas City’s Municipal Auditorium will serve as the site of the 2011 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship March 8-9 & 11-12.
Oklahoma begins its season with an exhibition game against Oklahoma Christian at the Lloyd Noble Center Thursday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m.
