The No. 16 Oklahoma women’s golf team finished in 11th place at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas with 968 (+104) total strokes. The Sooners final-round 319 (+31) was their best of the three rounds. Tournament champion Vanderbilt recorded a three-day total of 935 (+71) and also had the indiviudal champion, Chris Brady, who recorded 226 (+10) total strokes.
The competitive tournament, featuring nine top-25 teams, was played at the 6,247-yard, par-72 Hills Country Club.
OU had a different leader every round of the tournament. In the final round Amparo Gala was the leading Sooner and finished tied for 15th after carding a 76 (+4) - her lowest round of the tournament - to finish with a total of 237 (+21). Senior Hope Edge carded a final-round 80 (+8) and tied for 26th with 240 (+24) total strokes.
Junior Emily Milberger also recorded her lowest round of the tournament, a 79 (+7), and finished tied for 45th with a 246 (+30). Senior Lisa Meldrum finished tied for 68th with a 254 (+38) after carding a final-round 89 (+17). Freshman Jaclyn Stelzer recorded her best round of the tournament, 84 (+12) and finished tied for 79th with a tournament total of 259 (+43). Freshman Alana Donaldson did not play in the first round of the tournament due to an illness, but turned in an 86 (+14) in final-round play.
The Sooners return home for their next tournament. OU will compete in the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic, April 12-13 in Norman, Okla., at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course.
