OU Golfers In 11th After Two Rounds At Puerto Rico Classic

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team is tied for 11th place after second-round action Monday at the Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Sooners, who are ranked 10th in the latest Precept/GCAA Poll, shot a combined team score of 298 on the River Course at the Rio Mar Country Club (par-72, 6,945 yards) to push their team total to 593 (+17) and are in a three-way tie with No. 11 Georgia and Northwestern. Top-ranked Georgia Tech extended its lead over the rest of the field with a second-straight round of 275 for a total of 550 (-26). The tournament defending champions have a 16-shot lead over their closest competitor, No. 3 Clemson, who finished out the second round with a 289 for a total score of 568 (-8).

Junior John Kidwell (Dallas, Texas) continued to pace Oklahoma by posting an even-par 72 and stands in a four-way tie for 13th in the individual standings with a total score of 143 (-1). Kidwell is coming off a fourth-place showing in Hawaii at the Taylor Made Waikoloa Intercollegiate.

Two shots back is sophomore Martin Flores (Mansfield, Texas), who posted a second-round 73. Flores is tied for 21st with six other golfers while senior Cody Freeman (Arnett, Okla.) shot a two-over-par 74 to stand tied for 42nd with a total of 149 (+5).

Rounding out the scores for Oklahoma were sophomores Blake Martin (Stigler, Okla.) and Doug Manor (Garland, Texas) who shot scores of 78 and 79, respectively. Martin is currently in 69th place while Manor is tied for 73rd.

The Sooners begin their final 18 holes Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. CST.
