NORMAN, Okla. - In its second meet of the year, the top-ranked Oklahoma men's gymnastics team will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., on Friday, Jan. 25, for a nine-team meet at the Rocky Mountain Open. Meet time is set for 8 p.m. CST on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday as the Sooners go up against No. 2 Iowa, No. 7 Nebraska, No. 11 Navy, No. 13 Army, No. 16 Air Force, Arizona State, Washington and members of the Olympic Training Center team.
"It's a big invitational and there's going to be some teams we haven't seen yet," said head coach Mark Williams. "I'd like to see us continue to improve from what we did in our opening competition last weekend. We may shake up the lineup a little bit to see what the guys can do in a championship-like environment."
Oklahoma defeated Iowa and Air Force at home last weekend but has yet to face Nebraska, Navy and Army. Arizona State, Washington and the Olympic Training Center are club teams that will offer the Sooners a challenge but will not count towards OU's record.
After a first-place finish in the all-around last weekend, junior Daniel Furney will be leading the Sooners into competiton. Junior Josh Landis, senior David Johnston, junior Brett Covey and sophomore Jock Stevens posted first place finishes in the home meet and will be looked upon to repeat similar performances at the Rocky Mountain Open.
