No. 4 Bears Down Sooners, 5-2

NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 28 Oklahoma men’s tennis team was defeated by No. 4 Baylor 5-2 Sunday at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.

The Sooners swept the Bears in doubles play, starting off the match 1-0. At the No. 1 slot No. 60 OU tandem of junior Federico Chavarria and freshman Andrei Daescu upset Baylor’s No. l8 doubles pair of Matija Zgaga and David Galic, 8-5.

Also competing for the Oklahoma in doubles play was sophomore Rob McKenzie and freshman Vaclav Kucera at the No. 2 slot and senior Marek Velicka and junior Ryan Thomas at the No. 3 slot.

In singles play, OU was not as successful as it fell to BU in five of six singles matches. No. 124 Daescu was the only player to win in singles competition as he Matt Brown at the No. 3 slot.

McKenzie was the only other Sooner to take a match to three sets.

Oklahoma is 17-6 on the season and 1-3 against conference opponents and has one remaining Big 12 match against Oklahoma State. The Sooners squared off against the Cowboys Tuesday, April 10 but was the match postponed twice due to rain.

OU and OSU will resume the match Tuesday, April 24 at the OU Headington Tennis Center in Norman at 2 p.m.  The Sooners are currently behind the Cowboys in all three doubles matches. Live scoring of the match will be available at with a recap following the conclusion of play.
