NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma golfer Ellen Mueller advanced to match play at the 2008 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship after shooting 75 on both Monday and Tuesday during the stroke-play portion of the event at the par-72 Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
Mueller, whose two-round 150 (+6) tied her for 43rd place, finished stroke play 10 shots behind co-medalists Amanda Blumenherst of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Stephanie Na of Australia. The top 64 scores in stroke play advanced to match play.
Mueller, a sophomore from Evansville, Ind., will tee off at 2:40 p.m. CDT Wednesday against Allie White of Lancaster, Ohio. White finished five shots ahead of Mueller in stroke play.
If Mueller defeats White she will move into second-round action on Thursday. The third round will also be played Thursday, while the quarterfinals and semifinals will be held Friday and Saturday. Sunday's match play final will be comprised of 36 holes.
Fellow OU golfer Kendall Dye, who also competed in the tournament, finished stroke play in a tie for 83rd place with a two-round 154 (+10). The senior from Edmond shot an 80 in the first round and a 74 in the second.
