The No. 8 University of Oklahoma women’s golf team is currently in third place after two rounds of play at the Las Vegas Founders Women’s Collegiate Showdown in Las Vegas, Nev. The Sooners recorded an 11-over-par 299 Tuesday for a two-round score of 591 (+15). OU trails first-place New Mexico by 16 strokes. The 15-team field, that includes three top-25 teams, is playing at the 6,914-yard, par-72 Anthem Country Club.
Leading the Sooner squad was senior Lisa Meldrum, who carded an even-par 72 in the second round. Meldrum’s two-round score of 142 (-2) is one stroke behind first-place Katrina Leckovic of New Mexico. Junior Emily Milberger carded a 74 (+2) for the second consecutive day and is tied for 16th going into final-round play. Shooting a 77 (+5) in the second round was sophomore Amparo Gala who is tied for 18th with a 149 (+5). Senior Hope Edge recorded a 77 (+5) for the second straight round and is tied for 36th. Freshman Jaclyn Stelzer shot a 76 (+4), four strokes better than Monday, and is tied for 46th with a 156 (+12).
The Sooners will play their final round of the fall season Wednesday, when the tournament concludes after three rounds.
