Lincoln, Neb. -- The University of Oklahoma volleyball team fell to No. 1 Nebraska Thursday night in three sets (14-25, 11-25, 16-25), at NU Coliseum. The match, the first of three for the Sooners this weekend in the Ameritas Player Invitational, drops the Crimson and Cream to 6-3 on the year.

The Sooners were led by middle blocker, Sallie McLaurin, who totaled five kills for a team-high .214 hitting percentage. The junior also added four blocks to her name to lead the Crimson and Cream in the category for the ninth time this season.

Sophomore Tara Dunn also totaled five kills in the Sooners efforts against the top-ranked Huskers.

A pair of OU outside hitters recorded a team-leading six kills in senior Morgan Reynolds and junior Keila Rodriguez. Reynolds added a pair of block assists, while Rodriguez accumulated eight digs on the night.

With a team-leading 12 digs against the Huskers, libero Maria Fernanda surpassed the 1,800 mark of her career. The senior has consistently pushed ahead throughout her senior campaign as she now has 156 digs on the year to own 1,804 digs to her name throughout her career at OU.

Nebraska recorded 44 digs off of 94 attempts for a .383 team hitting percentage.

Hannah Werth led the Huskers with 14 kills off of 24 swings and just one error for both a match- and team-leading .542 hitting percentage. Werth also managed to collect a team-high 13 digs en route to a three-set sweep over Oklahoma.

The Sooners carried the momentum in the first stanza, with a 9-8 lead early in the set, but it was the only break they would catch on the night. The Huskers quickly broke away with a 6-0 scoring run to go ahead 13-10, and gain a lead they wouldn't relinquish as they took the set, 25-14.

Nebraska took the momentum from the first set into the second to jump out with a quick 5-1 lead. The Sooners strung together some successful point attempts thanks to Reynolds, who tallied a set-high three kills in the second stanza. However, Reynolds' fight wasn't enough as the Huskers strung together a 5-0 run to close out the second stanza, 25-11.

Freshmen Kierra Holst and Julia Doyle notched two of OU's three service aces in the third and final set. A successful swing from McLaurin put the Sooners within one point of the Huskers at 2-3, but it was the closest they would get to covering ground between the nation's top-ranked team. A 6-0 Nebraska scoring run produced a 9-2 deficit for Oklahoma and a lead to secure to the three-set sweep with a 25-16 tally in the closing stanza.

The Sooners will continue action at the Ameritas Player Invitational tomorrow evening in Lincoln, Neb., with a 6 p.m. showdown against No. 19 Kentucky. Action in Lincoln will conclude Saturday afternoon for the Sooners with a matinee match against Duquesne. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m.
