NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma women’s tennis team (2-4) will host back-to-back home matches Saturday, March 3 and Sunday, March 4 at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. Both matches begin at noon.
Saturday’s match will be the Sooners’ 2007 Big 12 opener as they host the No. 53 Texas Tech Red Raiders. Texas Tech is 6-4 on the season coming off a 7-0 sweep of Air Force in Lubbock on Feb. 25.
Oklahoma fell to 2-4 on the season after Thursday’s loss to No. 24 TCU. OU, which returns eight letterwinners, is still switching up its line-up due to injury. Junior Gabby Baker, who missed the entire 2004-05 season with an ACL injury, is still playing a limited number of matches.
Oklahoma and Texas Tech first met in 1980 and Oklahoma currently trails 7-9 in the series. The teams last faced off in April 2006 in Lubbock where the Red Raiders defeated OU 5-2.
On Sunday the Sooners will take on Oral Roberts (1-5). The last time these two teams met was in 2005 when Oklahoma won 7-0 in Norman. Oklahoma currently leads the overall series 15-1.
ORU is coming into Sunday’s match up after a 4-0 road loss to Oklahoma State on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
