Golfers Advance to Can-Am Match Play

NORMAN, Okla. Two University of Oklahoma golfers advanced to the match play rounds of the 101st Canadian Amateur Championship at Bell Bay Golf Club in Baddeck, Nova Scotia, Monday.

Seniors Brodie Flanders (Fawcett Hill, New Brunswick) and Shawn LaFontaine (Cobourg, Ontario) made it through the two-day, 36-hole stroke-play rounds to continue in the tournament.

Flanders fared the better of the two, carding a 2-under 70 on the 7,037-yard course Monday to give himself a two-round total of 146 and finish tied for 33rd.

LaFontaine combined rounds of 75 and 72, finishing one stroke behind Flanders in a tie for 40th.

Andrew Parr (London, Ontario) was the stroke-play medalist. Parr established himself as the man to beat heading into match play after firing rounds of 67 and 66 to finish with a four-stroke lead at 11 under par.

Flanders squares off against James Chan (Ancaster, Ontario) at 8:39 a.m. CDT and LaFontaine faces Jay Snyder (Vancouver, B.C.) at 8:57 a.m. in the first round of match play.
