NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma women’s golf team shot a second-round 307 (+19) Tuesday at the 18-team Golfweek Conference Challenge to move into sixth place with a 36-hole total of 608 (+32) in Edwards, Colo. The Sooners are just two strokes out of second place with one round remaining at the Red Sky Fazio Golf Course.
Oklahoma, No. 27 in the Golfweek rankings, is in front of five other top-50 teams. The Golfweek Conference Challenge, hosted by the University of Denver, boasts 11 top-50 teams total.
Sophomore Anne-Catherine Tanguay led the Sooners in the second round by shooting a 2-over-par 74 to bring her total to 149 (+5). She stands tied for 10th place out of 90 competitors.
Fellow sophomore Chirapat Jao-Javanil moved into third place after carding a second-round 75 (+3), giving her a 36-hole total of 145 (+1). Jao-Javanil, who shot a 2-under 70 in Monday’s first round, is just two strokes out of first place.
Jacki Marshall, who began the round in a tie for 61st, climbed her way to a tie for 39th place after carding a 77 (+5) in the second round. The junior recorded three birdies on the day and is at +12 for the tournament.
Junior Taylor Schmidt stands in a tie for 61st place after shooting a second-round 83 (+11), bringing her total to 160 (+16).
Sophomore Jade Staggs fired an 81 (+9) Tuesday and is tied 67th place with a 161 (+17).
No. 34 Oregon leads the tournament with a 36-hole total of 601 (+25). The Sooners trail the Ducks by seven strokes.
