NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma men’s golf team heads to Houston this weekend, March 17-19, for the 17-team Hall of Fame Invitational at Redstone Golf Club.
The Sooners are coming off their highest tournament finish of the year, a tie for fourth at the Ashworth Invitational. Junior Anthony Kim, a two-time All-American and reigning Big 12 Player of the Year, recorded three consecutive under-par rounds to earn medalist honors by seven strokes over Zack Miller of Stanford. The Ashworth title was Kim’s first of the season and the fourth of his career.
The Hall of Fame Invitational, co-hosted by the Golf Coaches Association of America and the University of Texas, will feature nine teams ranked in top 25 in the latest GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll, and 12 teams currently rated in the top 50 of the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Ratings, including defending champion No. 4/2 Oklahoma State.
The Oklahoma lineup will feature Kim, seniors Justin Fraley and Brodie Flanders, junior Nick Sheedy and sophomore Phillip Bryan.
Last year at the Hall of Fame, OU finished in a four-way tie for eighth place at 881 (+17). Kim and Sheedy both earned top-25 individual finishes. Kim tied for 15th at even-par 216, while Sheedy finished 22nd with a three-round total of 219 (+3).
The tournament begins a stretch of three consecutive tournaments in the state of Texas for OU. After the Hall of Fame, the Sooners will compete in the Morris Williams Intercollegiate, April 3-4, in Austin, and the Texas A&M Aggie Invitational in College Station, April 24-25.
