OU Finishes Regular Season Action at Colorado

NORMAN, Okla.--  The 47th-ranked University of Oklahoma men’s tennis team (17-4, 2-4) will play its final match of the regular season Saturday at 2 p.m. (CST) against No. 61 Colorado (8-13, 1-4) at the South Campus Tennis Courts in Boulder.

Oklahoma (17-4, 2-4) has won four of its last five matches and holds a 36-15 advantage over CU in the series with four of the last six matches between the two programs decided by 4-3 decisions.

Junior Tommy Garrison has won 15 straight singles matches, while senior Ondrej Fukala owns a 17-1 singles record and has won eight straight. Sophomore Marek Velicka is also on a roll with five of six wins. Velicka is ranked No. 52, while junior Alexei Ivanov ranks 96th in the latest ITA singles poll.

CU returns home after playing eight matches on the road. Seven of the eight teams Colorado faced were nationally ranked, and the Buffs defeated a handful of ranked individuals. Sophomore Jan Zelezny defeated the No. 36 ranked Callum Beale from Texas, while CU junior Marko Bundalo earned his first national ranking of his collegiate career coming in at No. 123.  Bundalo, who has won three of his last four matches upset the No. 23 Jerry Makowski of Texas A&M, No. 31 Jonathan Chu from Harvard, Southern Mississippi’s No. 45 David, and No. 78 Eric Hechtman of Miami.

In doubles junior Chad Tsuda and sophomore Marcos Digliodo, CU’s top tandem defeated a trio of ranked opponents. The CU duo defeated the No. 8 team from Boise State Thomas Schoeck and Luke Shields, the No. 11 duo from Texas Christian University Rafael Abreau and Fabrizio Sestini, and the No. 48 pair from Oklahoma State Boris Kuharic and Felipe Diaz.

In case of inclement weather, Saturday’s match will be played at the Millennium Hotel Bubble at 6:30 p.m.
