NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma softball team won the 2009 Fall Festival with an impressive 13-1 win over the Odessa College Wranglers Sunday afternoon at the OU Softball Complex.
Oklahoma’s offense was once again sparked once again by senior Amber Flores. After reaching on walks in her first two at bats, Flores hit her fifth home run of the Festival to spark OU’s offense. Her three run shot to right field was part of a five-run fourth inning for the Sooners.
Sophomore Evan Sallis also contributed by scoring three runs for the Sooners.
Freshman Keilani Ricketts started on the mound for OU, pitching three innings while striking out five. Sophomore Kirsten Allen threw the remaining four innings, giving up only one run on three hits.
Defensively, Sooner shortstop Karolyne Long wowed the crowd with an incredible full-extension diving catch in foul territory in the top of the fifth inning. The Sooner defense gave up just one run and committed no errors in the victory.
Odessa’s one run was the first scored on Oklahoma during the Fall Festival. Oklahoma went 5-0 in the tournament, out-scoring opponents 49-1 during the stretch.
The Sooners take the field again October 9 against Seminole State and conclude the fall schedule October 14, hosting North Central Texas. Both games will be played at the OU Softball Complex with the first pitch at 6 p.m. CT.
