NORMAN, Okla. Sooner head men’s golf coach Jim Ragan announced that Lynn Monzingo has been named assistant golf coach at the University of Oklahoma.
“Coach Monzingo brings with him a wealth of experience and vast knowledge of junior and college golf,” Ragan said. “His enthusiasm and positive attitude are both outstanding characteristics that will serve our program well. We are fortunate to have him as our assistant coach.”
Most recently Monzingo served as vice president and director of operations for the Texas Junior Golf Tour an iAlliance, as well as being on the board of directors.
Monzingo has also been managing partner at Ennis Country Club in Ennis, Texas, for the past four years.
Additionally, he has served as coordinator and camp instructor at the Golf Academy at Castle Hills Golf Club in Lewisville, Texas, and as tournament director for the Allen Samuels Junior Golf Championship and the Hershey’s All-American Junior Golf Championship.
Monzingo brings almost 20 years of experience as a head boys’ and girls’ high school golf coach in the Dallas metroplex. He began as coach at Slaton High School in Slaton, Texas, before spending the bulk of his career in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch district at R.L. Turner and Creekview High Schools.
A 1985 graduate of Eastern New Mexico University, Monzingo played collegiate golf at South Plains College and ENMU. He was a four-time all-conference golfer and was twice named to the all-region team.
After graduating from Eastern New Mexico with a bachelor’s degree in Science, Physical Education in 1985, Monzingo served as a graduate assistant and assistant golf coach while finishing his master’s degree in Education.
“I’m extremely excited about being a part of the Sooner family,” Monzingo said. “I hope that I can assist Coach Ragan in maintaining the rich tradition established at the University of Oklahoma men’s golf program. Coach Ragan is tremendously respected in the collegiate golf community and I feel fortunate being a part of his team at Oklahoma.”
