Softball Begins 2010 Ranked in Top 15

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma softball team begins the 2010 season ranked in the top 10 of the Softball Collegiate Top 25 with a preseason No. 10 ranking. The Sooners are 11th in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25.

Of teams ranked in the NFCA poll, Oklahoma is scheduled to face three ranked in the preseason top five, including preseason No. 1 and defending national champion Washington. The Sooners face 10 teams ranked in both polls. OU is scheduled to face 10 teams receiving votes in the NFCA poll and seven gaining consideration in the USA Softball poll.

Missouri was the highest ranked Big 12 team in both polls at ninth. After the Sooners, Baylor (#17-NFCA/#15-USA) was the only other Big 12 team in the top 25. Oklahoma State, Texas Nebraska and Texas A&M all received votes in both polls.

Oklahoma begins the 2010 season at the National Collegiate Softball Invitational in Clermont, Fla. The Sooners take on No. 4 Michigan to open the campaign.
