NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team will compete in the 54-hole UCF Challenge on March 1-2 (Monday and Tuesday). The 17-team tournament, hosted by the University of Central Florida, will be held at the 6,301-yard, par-72 Red Tail Golf Course in Sorrento, Fla.
"Red Tail is a fantastic golf course and we're looking forward to playing there this week," OU head coach Veronique Drouin said.
At the top of OU’s lineup is Ellen Mueller (Evansville, Ind.) The junior notched her 12th career top-20 finish at the Sooners’ last tournament, the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, by finishing in 15th place with a three-round 221 (+5).
Taylor Schmidt (Kincardine, Ontario) continues to hold a spot in the lineup for the Sooners, as she will compete in her fifth consecutive tournament as a freshman. Schmidt inked two top-30 performances last October, finishing in 23rd at the Windy City Collegiate with a 224 (+8) and 28th at an abbreviated Alamo Invitational with a single-round 77.
Senior Chelsey Collins and her sister sophomore Brooke Collins (Louisville, Colo.) will also compete for the Sooners, along with senior Andrea Sellmeyer (McAlester, Okla.).
"We've had some really good practices since Puerto Rico," Drouin said. "We have a different lineup again for this tournament and the girls have been playing great."
The tournament field consists of Texas A&M (ranked No.24 by Golfweek), Furman (No. 47), Augusta State, Baylor, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, East Carolina, Georgia State, Indiana, Miami, Nebraska, SMU, UNC-Greensboro, UCF, USF and UT-San Antonio.
