COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Federico Chavarria and Andrei Daescu begin play Thursday morning at the 2007 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by The Ohio State University. All matches will be played at the Racquet Club of Columbus.

Chavarria and Daescu begin play at 11 a.m. when they face Bogden Borta and Justin Chow of Columbia in the doubles first round.

The Sooner duo played their way into the championships after winning four matches in Tulsa, Okla., to claim the central regional title. OU defeated No. 1-seed and preseason No. 12 Colin Mascall and Blake Strode of Arkansas, 8-6, in the finals.

"Andrei and Federico play very well together and that showed last weekend in Tulsa," head coach Paul Lockwood said. "These two players have put in a lot of work this fall and it is showing right now. I am very excited for both of them because these are two great kids who work very hard and I am extremely happy for them to be playing this weekend."

Daescu will begin play in singles action immediately following the first round of doubles play. Daescu will face No. 1-seed and preseason No. 1 Somdev Devvarman of Virginia in round one.

"With the way Andrei is playing right now anything can happen and that is why we play the game," Lockwood continued.

Daescu defeated Dalibar Pavic of Drake, 6-0, 6-4, claiming the ITA Central Regional Championship in singles play. The Sooner sophomore won five matches and defeated No. 1-seed and preseason's No. 15-ranked player Ivan Puchkarev of Oklahoma State at the central regional championships.

"His first round opponent is an exceptional player but Andrei has been playing his best tennis of the fall and I can't wait to see how he performs this weekend," Lockwood said.

This weekend's action will conclude the fall schedule for the men's tennis team.
