NORMAN, Okla. – A trio of OU women’s gymnastics recruits for the 2010-11 season competed at the Level 10 Junior Olympic national championships in Puyallup, Wash., over the weekend. Bethany Neubauer (Dynamo Gymnastics), Kayla Nowak (Illinois Gymnastics Institute) and Brie Olson (Ultimate) all placed in the top 20 in the all-around competition in their respective divisions.
In Senior C competition, Nowak tied for ninth with an all-around tally of 37.625. The Algonquin, Ill., native was solid on all four events, including a 9.575 on floor and a 9.55 on vault. Olson stood fourth through three rotations, before a fall on beam that dropped her to 19th place. A native of St. Cloud, Minn., Olson shined on vault and floor, posting scores of 9.625 and 9.6, respectively.
Neubauer placed 10th in the Senior D division, tallying an all-around score of 37.775. The Edmond, Okla., native posted the eighth-best bars set in her division (9.35), while also posting a 9.35 on beam for a share of 11th. Neubauer rounded out the night with a 9.55 on vault and a 9.525 on floor.
The three all signed a National Letter of Intent with the Sooners during the early signing period last fall and will join their OU teammates later this summer.
