NORMAN, Okla. - The 30th-ranked University of Oklahoma men’s golf team will travel to Goodyear, Ariz., this week to compete in the Desert Shootout, hosted by Denver University. The 15-team, 54-hole tournament will be held at the par-72, 7,015-yard Palm Valley Golf Course from Thursday to Saturday (March 17-19).
“We are looking forward to getting back on the road after a good start to our spring,” said OU head coach Ryan Hybl. “I am looking for our guys to go out this week and compete,” Hopefully we have a chance to win. That is our goal and I know the boys will be up for the challenge.”
Oklahoma will be the highest-ranked team on the course and will face three other ranked opponents: No. 31 North Texas, No. 43 TCU and No. 44 Tulsa. The field will be rounded out by Boise State, BYU, Denver, Iowa State, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, Saint Mary, Southern Utah, Houston, VCU and Wyoming.
OU’s lineup features junior Riley Pumphrey, senior Ryan Sirman, sophomore Abraham Ancer and freshmen Michael Schoolcraft and Eduardo Castiello. Junior Will Kropp will be competing as an individual.
Pumphrey and Ancer are looking to carry their momentum from last month’s Oak Hills Invitational. Pumphrey carded an impressive eighth-place finish and Ancer finished tied for 16th place.
The Sooners will tee off Thursday morning on holes 1 and 10 starting at 7:30 CT. Final results from each round will be posted on SoonerSports.com.
