NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma senior catcher Lindsey Vandever has been named team captain for the 2010 softball season. Head coach Patty Gasso made the announcement Tuesday morning.
“Lindsey is the right choice to lead this team,” Gasso said. “As a catcher, she has natural leadership ability. The Sooners are in good hands with Lindsey leading the way. It is a great honor for her and very well-deserved.”
The team selected the captain based on characteristics such as work ethic, positive attitude and consistency both on and off the field.
"I am honored to be the captain of a program with such great tradition,” Vandever said. “It is something I take a lot of pride in. It is a great feeling to know that people look to you as a strong leader of their team.”
Oklahoma begins the 2010 season on Feb. 12 at Dot Richardson’s National Collegiate Softball Invitational in Orlando, Fla. The Sooners take on St. Gregory’s in their home opener on Feb. 16.
