NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's golf team placed second at the 2002 Big 12 Championships at Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan, Kan. The Sooners were edged by defending conference champion Oklahoma State by three strokes. Oklahoma had four of its individual competitors place in the top 20. Claiming the individual title was Emma Zackrisson from Oklahoma State with a score of 223.

Junior Allison Johnson placed third with a score of 225. Tenth place belonged to senior Jennifer Tannehill with a score of 228, while sophomore Lisa Meldrum carded a 229 to finish in 11th place. Senior Wendy Martin shot a 235 for an 18th place finish and sophomore Hope Edge carded a 240 to finish in 5th place.

"This was very disappointing for the team, but we did well," said head coach Carol Ludvigson. "We played in a different types of condition each of the three rounds, which made it very hard to manage our shots. It is really good to be in the thick of things until the end, which we were. We had the lowest rounds on both the second and third day and that shows the desire and fight of this team."

The Sooners will find out their NCAA Regional assignment on Monday, April 29.
