Bean Third At Penn Relays; Carson Second At Drake

PHILADELPHIA, Pa..-- LaBoris Bean finished third in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles to lead the OU efforts at the 107th Penn Relays. He posted a 50.71 in the final, a time that broke the NCAA provisional standard.

In the 92nd Drake Relays, senior Bambi Carson finished second in the shot put with a 51-8.5, another NCAA provisional mark for Carson. Michael Westlund also got an NCAA provisional mark, finishing seventh in the special pole vault with a 17-10.25. Westlund was the second best finishing collegian in the meet.

In other action in Des Moines, senior Jessica Longfors finished ninth in the shot put with a 45-9 and the women's 3200-meter relay, Kelli O'Rourke, Corrie Hussar, Michelle Thomas and Alaina Dearman, finished 10th with a 9:10.41, a season best by nearly a minute. OU volunteer pole vault coach Kurt Hanna finished fifth in the special pole vault with an 18-4.

In other action in Philadelphia, Jimyria Hicks finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with an 11.61. The Sooner men finished sixth in the 1600-meter relay with a 3:08.34. Joey Scott was 11th in the 400 IH with a 52.42 and Ryan Clarke was 21st with a 52.97 in the 400 IH.

A pair of former Sooners, Danny McFarlane and Michael Blackwood, were members of the Jamaican relay that finished second in the USA vs. World 1600-meter relay event. McFarlane ran the third leg and Blackwood ran the anchor leg and both had 45.1 splits.

The Sooners will travel to Lubbock, Texas, for a dual with Texas Tech next Saturday.
