NORMAN, Okla. The Oklahoma men’s golf squad travels to Tempe, Ariz., April 13-15 to compete in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in its final tune up before next weekend’s Big 12 Championship. The event, held at the par-72, 7,057-yard Karsten Golf Course, features four teams ranked in the latest Golf World top-20.
The 15-team field, hosted by No. 18 Arizona State (named Golfweek’s team of the week on April 10), will play 18 holes Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tee times are set for 8:30 a.m. (CST) on Friday and Saturday, with Sunday’s final round starting at 8 a.m. (CST).
Joining OU and Arizona State in the event will be Arizona, Baylor, California, Fresno State, Kansas State, New Mexico, Oregon, San Diego State, Southern California (5), Texas A&M (14), Texas Tech, UCF and UNLV (9).
The Sooner lineup will feature seniors Nick Sheedy and J.J. Wood, junior Phillip Bryan and freshmen Ben Blundell and Jesse Schutte.
Sheedy is coming off of back-to-back top-25 finishes for the first time since his 2004-05 freshman campaign.
This weekend’s tournament will mark the 18th time the Sooners have competed in the invitational and the first time since finishing fifth in 2003.
