Women's Tennis Dominates Oral Roberts

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma womens tennis team defeated Oral Roberts, 9-0, Tuesday at OUs Tennis Intramural Courts. In their first dual match of the fall season, the Sooners held ORU scoreless at the No. 3, 4 and 5 singles positions.

Out of a possible 60 points, Oklahoma allowed the Golden Eagles just eight in singles competition. OU seniors Angela Stroup and Jennie Hamilton and freshman Joni Helleland shut out ORUs Janou Meens, Lindsay Patterson and Elizabeth Middleton, respectively. Senior Kristin Guilford defeated Carrie Pretorius, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 2 singles slot, while junior Viviana Mracnova swept ORUs Marlena Maciolek, 6-1, 6-5, at the No. 1 position. Mracnova entered the match with a preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association national singles ranking of 96th. OU ended the match by winning all three doubles points. Helleland, Mracnova and Stroup currently own 3-1 singles records, while Guilford and Hamilton are 2-2 each.

The Sooners will wrap up their fall season at the ITA Central Regional, Nov. 3-7 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
