NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team concluded the final round of the Puerto Rico Classic in eighth place in Palmer, Puerto Rico, on Tuesday. The Sooners finished the day with a team score of 291 (+3) and finished the tournament a with three-day total of 895 (+31). The tournament winner was Oklahoma State, which shot a six-under-par 282 in the final round. The tournament was played on the River Course (par 72, 6,945) at the Westin Rio Mar Country Club.

OU was led by freshman Jim Renner (Plainville, Mass.) for the second consecutive tournament. Renner shot a final-round 71 (-1) and finished tied for ninth place. Renner's second-round score of 67 (-5) tied for a tournament low.

Senior John Kidwell (Dallas, Texas) rebounded from an opening round 80, carding a 69 (-3) in the second round and a 70 (-2) in the final round, finishing in a tie for 17th place. Junior Blake Martin (Stigler, Okla.) carded a a 73 (+1) in the closing round and finished the tournament tied for 45th.

Rounding out the scoring for the Sooners were juniors Martin Flores (Mansfield, Texas), who finished tied for 67th, and Doug Manor (Garland, Texas), who concluded the tournament tied for 73rd.

The Sooners will compete in the Cleveland Golf Classic at Westlake, Calif., on March 3-4.
