No. 17 Tech Defeats Men's Tennis

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma Sooners (7-10, 0-3 Big 12) were defeated by the No. 17 Texas Tech Red Raiders (17-2, 2-0 Big 12) on Friday night, 7-0, at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

The Sooners won at No. 1 doubles as Federico Chavarria and Andrei Daescu defeated Christian Rojmar and Bojan Szumanski, 8-6.  The Red Raiders took both the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches.

"We did not play up to our potential today and lost some crucial points during both the doubles and singles matches," head coach Paul Lockwood said.

No. 32 Andrei Daescu was defeated Szumanski at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-3.

The Red Raiders won the No. 2 through 6 singles to take the match.

"We need to refocus our energy and prepare for Oral Roberts on Monday.  They are a very good team and we will need to player at a higher level than we did tonight to win," Lockwood continued

Oklahoma is ranked No. 67 in the April 1 release of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team rankings.

Sophomore Andrei Daescu is ranked No. 32 in the ITA singles rankings..

Next up, the Sooners host Oral Roberts on Monday, April 7.  The match is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
