OU Women's Basketball Team Hosts End of the Year Banquet

NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma Head Women's Basketball Coach Sherri Coale and Sooners would like to invite OU fans to celebrate the achievements of the 2003 season at their annual end of the year banquet set for Friday, April 18, at 6 p.m. at the USPS National Center for Employee Development, off of Highway 9.

Tickets for the banquet are $25 for adults and $20 for children under 12 years old. You may reserve your spot by calling the women's basketball office at (405) 325-8322. The reservation deadline is Wednesday, April 9.

Oklahoma (19-13) appeared in its fourth straight NCAA Tournament and won at least 18 games for the 12th time in program history this season. The Sooners also placed fifth in the rugged Big 12 Conference, after losing four players to knee injuries, with a league record of 9-7. Sophomore Dionnah Jackson and freshman Chelsi Welch each earned All-Big 12 second team honors. Welch also was named Co-Big 12 Freshman of the Year.

Jackson, a 5-9 point guard, averaged a team-best 5.1 assists per game. Her 6.5 rebounds and 11.8 points per contest ranked second and third best on the team, respectively. Welch ended the season as OU's second best scorer, 12.1 ppg, three-point shooter (30.1%) and free throw shooter (80.0%), of players making at least 50 treys and free throws. The 5-9 guard also averaged a team-best 14.2 ppg against Big 12 teams. Junior guard Maria Villarroel led all Sooners with 15.0 ppg and a 57.6 shooting percentage from the field. Senior center Theresa Schuknecht led the team in rebounds per game, with 6.6, and free throw percentage, hitting 83.5 percent from the stripe.
