NORMAN, Okla-- The University of Oklahoma women's golf team wrapped up the fall season with a ninth-place finish after shooting a final-round 308 (+20) Wednesday at the Kent Youel Invitational in Kapolei, Hawaii. The Sooners carded a tournament total 934 (+70) and finished 30 strokes behind winner San Francisco.

Junior Kelly Jacques, who entered final-round play in a tie for seventh place, finished in a tie for 26th. She shot a 12-over-par 84 Wednesday. Senior Jaclyn Stelzer carded a 78 (+6) to finish in a 31st-place tie while sophomore Kendall Dye finished in 36th after shooting a final-round 75 (+3). Senior Megan Goodwin fired a 2-over 74, the Sooners' best score of the day, to finish in a tie for 41st. Sophomore Staci Smoot shot an 81 (+9) and finished 73rd.

"We did better as a whole today," OU head coach Carol Ludvigson said. "Of course having Kelly shoot 84 was hard for us because she has been the most consistent player for us all semester. I was sorry to see her not be able to complete this tournament with the finish she deserves. It was very positive for Megan and Kendall to come in with the third-round scores they did."

Lacey Jones of SMU carded a third-round 75 (+3) to secure top medalist honors. Jones led Tuesday through 36 holes of play and finished with a tournament score of 219 (+3).

"It was very windy and they hung in there nice and steady," Ludvigson said of her golfers. "We have a lot to work on but are excited to go into the offseason and continue working hard and getting stronger. The finish of this season has been tough but the girls have continued to be positive and hard working. This will pay off in the end."

The Sooners return to the links in February to begin their spring slate. OU will tee off in 2007 in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic hosted by Purdue in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
