NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma is No. 9 in the USA Today/ESPN Preseason Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll announced Tuesday.

The Sooners have started the season in the top 10 of the coaches' poll each of the past five seasons.

Connecticut received 27 of a possible 31 first-place votes to start as the preseason favorite, while Baylor and Stanford tied for second. Tennessee and Duke rounded out the top five.

OU and UConn will square off Feb. 14 at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.

Xavier, Ohio State, Texas A&M, OU and Kentucky completed the top 10. The Sooners meet Ohio State in Columbus on Dec. 1.

Big 12 foes Iowa State (No. 17), Texas (No. 20), and Nebraska (No. 23) were also among the Top 25.

The USA TODAY/ESPN Board of Coaches is made up of 31 head coaches at Division I institutions. All are members of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Oklahoma was ranked No. 10 in the preseason AP poll, voted by media and released last week.

The Sooners begin their basketball season Thursday, Nov. 4, with an exhibition game against Oklahoma Christian. Tip-off at the Lloyd Noble Center is 7 p.m.
