NORMAN, Okla. - Senior Stephanie Webb was one of 15 women named to the Verizon Academic All-America women's spring at-large team today.

Webb, who posted a 4.0 grade point average in mechanical engineering, becomes the first Sooner woman in track and field to earn first-team Academic All-America honors from Verizon and the College Sports Information Directors of America, the group responsible for starting the tradition of selecting Academic All-Americans.

The announcement marked the fourth major academic award for the Bartlesville native this spring. Earlier, she was named to the Big 12 Conference All-Academic team and she earned a $5,000 Big 12 Postgraduate Scholarship last month. In April, she was one of two Sooner track and field student-athletes to be inducted into OU's chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, a national honorary which recognizes academic excellence in all disciplines. Honorees must be in the top 10 percent of their class as senior or graduate students or in the top five percent of their class as last semester juniors.

Webb was one of seven named to the first team with a 4.0 or above grade point average, and 10 of the 15 named to the first team came from the sport of track and field. She also was one of three student-athletes on the first team representing Big 12 member institutions.

Webb was named to the 10-member Verizon Academic All-District Women's Spring At-Large first team in May, then advanced to the national ballot. The Verizon Academic All-America teams are selected by the 1,800 members of CoSIDA. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.20 on a scale of 4.0. CoSIDA members nominate student-athletes from their schools who are named to district teams prior to being voted on at the national level. CoSIDA has been selecting Academic All-Americans since 1952.

Webb was a leader for the Sooner cross country and track distance squads. Webb had a career best in the 5000-meter run at the Big 12 Championship on May 19. She also posted the best time on the team in the indoor 3000-meter run and the outdoor 3000-meter run. She had the second best 1500-meter time on the team as well.

An honors scholar at OU, she was a three-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree in track and earned Academic All-Big 12 honors in cross country three times. A multi-time Dean's and President's Honor Roll selection, Webb was named as a Phillips 66 Classroom Champion and has been on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll eight times.
