NORMAN, Okla. - The 18th-ranked University of Oklahoma volleyball travels to Coral Gables, Fla., this weekend for the Hurricane Invitational hosted by the University of Miami. The Sooners open play Friday at 3 p.m. CT against Florida A&M. OU faces Auburn Saturday morning at 9 a.m. CT and Miami Saturday night at 6 p.m. CT. A LOOK AT OKLAHOMA AS A TEAM
OU dropped the first set to Arkansas Tuesday night and rebounded to take the match in four sets ... Oklahoma's 15 total blocks against the Razorbacks ties for the second highest in a single match in the last five seasons ... The most in that span was 19 at Missouri on Oct. 9, 2010. OU also had 15 against Kansas on Nov. 3, 2007 ... Oklahoma is allowing the third lowest opponent hitting percentage in the Big 12 (.125) ... Only Texas Tech (.082) and Kansas (.098) have lower opponent hitting percentages ... The Sooners dropped their first match of the year Friday evening in a 3-1 loss to Cincinnati ... Oklahoma rebounded to sweep North Texas and Sam Houston State on Saturday ... Oklahoma got its first win over a ranked opponent on Aug. 29 with a sweep of No. 15 Colorado State ... The Sooners won the Nike Invitational with a 3-0 record against SMU (3-0), Oral Roberts (3-0) and Missouri State (3-1).
| Player to Watch: Eden Williams
Eden Williams spends most of time on the court under attack. Williams plays defensive specialist and as a result, is more likely to be the first to handle hard-hitting attacks from the opposing team.
But, it's something she does and does well. Williams enters the match to serve, also an area she's effective in. This season, she's played in every set and is leading the Sooners with eight service aces (0.30 per set). She also averages 1.48 digs per set.
A LOOK AT OKLAHOMA INDIVIDUALLY
Sallie McLaurin had nine block assists against Arkansas. That matches her previous career high set twice previously ... It also broke her previous OU single match record (four sets) in the category (8 vs. Missouri, 10/9/10) ... McLaurin had a team-best 12 kills for her fourth career double-double ... Brianne Barker had her fifth of the season ... Freshman Grace Whitley made her third consecutive start at middle blocker against Arkansas ... Barker and Suzy Boulavsky earned all-tournament team honors at the North Texas Invitational ... McLaurin was named most valuable player of the Nike Invitational. She led OU with a .418 hitting percentage ... Barker and María Fernanda also earned all-tournament team honors.
