Women's Gymnasts Down Iowa State, Centenary

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics team won its last home meet of the season by defeating No. 8 Iowa State and Centenary today at Lloyd Noble Center.

Oklahoma won with a score 196.500 and was followed by Iowa State(195.600) and Centenary(188.750). The Sooners' season record improved to 9-1 overall and 1-1 in Big 12 action.

OU senior Amber McCracken garnered the all-around title scoring a 39.550, while ISU's Betsy Hamm, ranked fifth nationally in the all-around, placed second (39.500). McCracken also took first in the floor exercise (9.925) and tied for first in the vault (9.900) with teammate Leticia Ishii and the Cyclones' Shelly Kringen and Karen Kuplicki. Iowa State's Kelli More won the balance beam competition with a score 9.925, while Sooner freshman Patricia Aoki (9.875) and McCracken (9.850) took second and third-place honors. With scores 9.925, OU's Shanna Sanders, Mariana Goncalves and Ishii tied to win the uneven parallel bars. It marked Sanders' and Goncalves' first event wins of the season.

The Sooners are back in action this Saturday when they travel to Columbia, Mo., to face the Missouri Tigers. Competition begins at 7 p.m.
