The No. 11 University of Oklahoma women’s golf team won their second consecutive tournament at the Kent Youel Invitational in Oahu, Hawaii. OU’s three-round total of 889 was two strokes better than No. 8 Washington, who finished in second place. The 17-team field played at the 5,900-yard, par-72 Kapolei Golf Course.
Senior Lisa Meldrum led the Sooner squad once again. Meldrum finished tied for second after carding a season-low 69 (-3) in the final round for a total of 215. Her final-round was also the lowest of any round in the tournament. Meldrum has not placed any lower than second in any tournament this fall.
Junior Emily Milberger tied for fifth after recording a final round 72 (E) for a total of 222. Sophomore Amparo Gala shot a 76 (+4) for the third consecutive round and tied for 21st. Finishing one stroke behind Gala was senior Hope Edge, who tied for 25th after carding a third-round 76 (+4). Rounding out the Sooner squad was freshman Jaclyn Stelzer who shot a final-round 85 (+13) to finish tied for 40th with a 233.
"I am very excited about a great team victory," Head Coach Carol Ludvigson said. "It’s great to get our second win in a row. We were excited about beating No. 8 Washington because they lost to No. 1 Duke by only one stroke last week. It just shows what a great team effort this win was."
The Sooners conclude their fall season and aim for three straight at the Las Vegas Founders Women’s Collegiate Showdown in Las Vegas, Nev., Nov. 10-12.
